Chike Obeagu (b. 1975) is a mixed media artist who finds creative expression through Painting, Photography, Installation Art, and Poetry.
He studied at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Fine Arts degrees in 1998 and 2003, respectively.
In his undergraduate days, Chike Obeagu experimented with a photo collage technique. The experiment, informed by the need to find a viable and economical means to express his art. Geometric and colorful compositions are what his works are known for, created with a depth of size and perception. The unity of his design is achieved by a binding organization of parts, with each part of the work lending a somewhat complex but strong attachment to the other, forming a mastery of technique that gives his paintings a peculiar expressive force. He bears his views and opinion on the social and political scenes in Nigeria through the use of his art.
Obeagu is the Co-Founder and Creative Director of FABA (For Artists By Artists) Studios, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting emerging talent in Nigeria. A recipient of many awards and grants, Chike has participated in exhibitions, residencies, and workshops in Nigeria, Senegal, Italy, South Africa, the USA, UK, and China. His works have gained acceptance all over the world.
